IWAN Thomas is considering a possible athletics comeback in time for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

The former European and Commonwealth 400m champion, now 35, is weighing up a bid to qualify for Wales's 4x400m squad for the games, which will be held in Delhi.

"I'm semi-tempted, looking at the timetable, to think about having a go this year," Thomas said.

"I've not told anyone yet, but I'm actually starting training, so who knows?"

Thomas has been plagued by injury problems over the last four years.

But he says he is still in good condition and believes he could form part of a strong Welsh side.

"Obviously I'm an old man now but I still keep myself fit and I love my athletics," he added.

"I'm just looking around and the calibre of Welsh athletes they've got has always been good.

"If I can convince Christian Malcolm to do a 4x400 then obviously you've got Dai Green and Rhys Williams.

"If I was able to pull something out of the old retirement bag, you've got a pretty decent 4x400 team there.

"I never really got a chance to say goodbye in my career, I never really retired, I just got injured and fizzled out — it would be lovely to put the vest on one more time."
