MARLENE Charles (Post, May 25) has raised concern regarding the cruelty that occurs when horses are tethered.

Whether horses are hurt by tying themselves up in their ropes or because people are cruel to them, tethering takes away their only real protection from danger and that is flight.

This problem will never go away as it is a cheaper and lazy option for the often ill-educated and anonymous horse owner; we must ban the barbaric and ancient act of tying up these beautiful and trusting creatures.

The Pettifor Trust which is dedicated to the welfare of animals has 800 signatures opposing this dreadful practice and need more people like Marlene Charles to raise awareness to this problem which can only be solved by stopping the tethering of horses once forever.
