Terror as OAP hurt fighting off dog
THE daughter of a pensioner has told the Journal how her mother fought off a dog that left her with bite marks and puncture wounds to her arm.
The 70-year-old woman spent five hours in hospital after being attacked by the animal while out walking in Carmarthen.
Dyfed-Powys Police are investigating the attack.
Now there are calls for signs to be put up on the footpath linking Llansteffan Road with the rear of Tesco Extra, urging dog owners to keep their pets on leads.

The path is used by pupils walking to and from Queen Elizabeth High.
The woman — who lives in Johnstown but does not wish to be named — has provided the Journal with photographs of her injuries.
She believes the dog that attacked her appeared to be a boxer breed of dog. She was walking with her daughter's Pekingese dog at around midday on Saturday, December 1.
Her daughter said: "My mother scooped up my dog and put it under her coat but the other dog was circling her and then floored her, biting her right arm. She told me that the dog's owner was further down the path and had let the dog go ahead without its lead.
"If the dog had gone through an artery or bitten her neck, it could have been a very different and much worse situation."
Dyfed-Powys Police are investigating the attack and appealing for witnesses.

“I'm sure their alpha masculinity will be dented after the fine and if they don't pay up then jail it is.
No dog walking when your in jail, to me it's a win win situation.”

“That won't stop the problem as for some owners their dog is nothing more than a status symbol of the alpha masculinity, and if they deem their dog worthy of being above the law then so be it.... that is of course what they think.
It is better to use tools that can be readily and cheaply available to combat them. The police have a great opportunity here but they are not taking advantage of it and the new commissioner is now capable of influencing this sort of innovation... now if only I knew who he was so I could tell him about it.”

“Simple answer make it a criminal offence for a dog to be off a lead, punishable by a £1000 fine. I'm sure we will see a lot less of this happening, and if that doesn't work make it £10,000.
And then we will not see innocent dogs being punished.”

“I often wonder why the police do not treat this as assault, and there is a very powerful tool that they can use to easily track down the culprit. Police sniffer dogs.
There will be circumstances where the assaulter will have driven to the park, however there are circumstances where the assaulter walked there with his dog and those are the ones who can be tracked back to the place they are currently present in. The scent remains even through recent rain.”
