According to a police spokesman, the 31-year-old woman was walking along Regent Street East in Briton Ferry between 9.30pm and 10pm on Saturday.
"A male approached her and pulled her across the road near to the junction with Ferry Close where he sexually assaulted her," said the spokesman.

"A 17-year-old youth has been arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on police bail pending further inquiries."
Detective Inspector David Hough is head of the specialist Sapphire Team, which is based at Morriston Police Station and investigates rape and serious sexual assault cases.
"This was an extremely traumatic and upsetting incident for this lady," said Mr Hough.
Attack
"Although the attack happened during the hours of darkness we are aware that there were people and vehicles out and about in the area at the time.
"We had a number of phone calls from the public, telling us there was an incident happening in the lane.
"I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the attack or has any relevant information to come forward."
Police say such incidents are rare in the Briton Ferry area.
Neath Port Talbot and Briton Ferry town councillor Hugh James agreed. "We do have our fair share of crime in this area, like everywhere else, but we hardly ever get anything like this," he said.
"Obviously it is a matter of concern when we hear of this sort of thing going on, but it doesn't happen very often and I would like to think it was an isolated incident."
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
