WANT to shed your Christmas flab and become New Year fab? Well it's that time of year when celebs want to help you get into shape with their Fitness DVD's. Our fitness expert Tara Hammett has puts a few to the test to help you make the right choice.

LEAN ROUTINE with Letitia Dean

Letitia was very friendly and talked about her former weight issues, although there's a bit too much pouting and posing for me.

She looks in great shape after losing two stone and seven inches off both her waist and tummy, and she is inspiring.

It was quite dance and aerobics-based, and had body-conditioning exercises that worked all of the body. It had a bit of everything in it.

Letitia also gave a calorie-controlled eating plan, which was good because it's a good, honest eating plan with lots of fruit, veg, lean meat and slow-release carbs.

SUPERBODY WORKOUT with Davina

There are two full 40 minute workouts - Super-Sculpt and Super- Fit. For the super-fit there are three longer routines targeting specific body parts such as the abs, legs or arms.

Davina uses a good variety of workouts. You can also choose which area of the body you want to focus on and then go straight to that bit of the DVD—which is a massive advantage.

She also explains about posture, which is useful advice. The routines are varied and include some kick-boxing, cardio work and strengthening moves.

It is best for those with a good level of fitness, although there is an easier version to each section so it caters for all.

PURE DANCE WORKOUT with Denise Van Outen

The latest exercise programme from the TV presenter and West End star, this features four energetic dance routines each lasting about ten minutes, set to music.

Within each dance are moves to target specific body parts including the waist, bingo wings, legs and bottom.

I thought this DVD was a bit boring and hard to follow. There are quite a lot of sharp head movements, so older people would probably be better off steering clear of this one. Plus you do need a lot of space to do the routines in. Anyone who is not very fit or properly warmed up could struggle with this because it is fairly strenuous. So you need to be a fairly active person before you try it out.

It is good for teenage girls who could do it with their friends —because it's like a pop video with a pop music soundtrack

DISCO BURN with Coleen Nolan

THERE'S a bit of everything in this one — dancing, aerobics and body conditioning.

It was easy to follow and had advice on posture. With her trainer, Mikey, Coleen smiles her way through five workout sections set to disco classics - the workouts include disco aerobics (a low-impact cardiovascular routine), disco aerobics inferno (high intensity routine to make you sweat and burn calories) two disco tone sections which aim to condition different body parts and a floor-based core strengthening routine.

Each lasts about ten minutes. This is good fun and a good DVD to kick start a fitness regime. There are lots of well-explained fun-moves such as the funky pony. You might get bored of the disco theme eventually, but it's a fun way to kick start a routine.

Best for beginners, young and old.

GET TOTALLY FIT with Mel B

Mel B looks absolutely stunning! This is a challenging workout, but it's not made up of complicated steps – just strengthening and cardio moves that need a bit of stamina but will give you a perfect body with persistence.

"The two full-body workouts are broken into segments including cardio and advanced cardio, and exercises to tone the back and chest, arms and legs, core and buttock muscles.

Before you start you must choose which bits you fancy doing which was a great idea.

Mel B does all the instruction herself and gives good basic, practical advice for beginners.

The only equipment needed is a broomstick for stability work and some bottles of water or cans for weights. Fun and easy to follow. Mel B is well groomed and glam all the way through. There's a brief nutrition section on super healthy food.

This is a good all-rounder and Mel B's body is very inspiring.

5-STEP FAT ATTACK with Claire Richards

Claire's a great role model as she has done so well to lose so much weight and the workout is a good one for all fitness levels as it's staggered in intensity.

Claire's a size ten again, thanks to this routine which includes some easy dance moves in the warm-up followed by a section of fat assault aerobics, combat moves such as strikes, kicks and punches, target and tone exercises for core stability and a cool down.

Each section is set to Steps tracks and lasts around ten minutes.

What I really like about this DVD is its variety and simplicity. If you think you are too unfit to take up exercise, this is for you.

Best for beginners.
