Talk on Vernon Watkins to the Gower Society in Sketty
SWANSEA'S "other" poet is to be explored next week.
Vernon Watkins is the subject of a talk entitled Vernon, and Dylan to the Gower Society on Saturday , which will include readings of several of his poems and his prose by various people.
Although older, Watkins, who worked in a bank in Wind Street, struck up a firm friendship with Dylan.
A spokesman for the Gower Society said: "While Dylan Thomas more often than not grabs the headlines his friend and contemporary, Vernon Watkins, who lived in Pennard and died in Seattle in 1967, has been somewhat overlooked.
"Yet Vernon was a major metaphysical poet who was being considered for Poet Laureate after the death of John Masefield."
The meeting, at Sketty Parish Centre, starts at 7pm, and non-members are welcome.
