TWO Dafen swimmers have been crowned the best in Britain at the British Lifesaving Championships, with their club also taking a handful of medals.

William Bowen and Ben Clarke, both 17, of the Llanelli Surf Lifesaving Club took gold in the senior boys' category in the championships, which took place in Sheffield.

A-level student William and Ben, an apprentice engineer at Tata Steel, have been club partners since 2008.

The Welsh team — consisting of swimmers from clubs in Llanelli, Loughor and Mumbles — scooped 20 medals across all four elements of the competition.

William's dad and club coach, Aled Bowen, said: "It's an outstanding achievement which is the result of hard training, teamwork, skill and commitment.

"Everyone at the club is very proud of the boys.

"Our club has been going for 12 years and for a small club it is a really high achievement to win these medals for Wales in what is the pinnacle of life-saving."
