Swansea woman, 62, woken by burglar who threatened her
A TERRIFIED woman had a duvet put over her head by a burglar who broke into her house while she was asleep.
The intruder woke his 62-year-old victim, threatened her and covered her head while he ransacked her bedroom.
He then forced her downstairs where she managed to escape and ran outside to raise the alarm.
Acting Detective Inspector Keith Morgan of Swansea police said: "This was a despicable attack on a woman in her own home in broad daylight."
The incident happened in Hoo Street, Port Tennant, at around 12.25pm on Tuesday.
Mr Morgan said: "The woman was asleep in bed when she was awoken and threatened by the intruder, who forced her out of bed and covered her head with a duvet while he searched the room.
"She was later forced to walk downstairs, her head still covered by the duvet, followed by the suspect.
"Shortly after the suspect returned back upstairs. This allowed the victim time to escape through an open rear door to raise the alarm."
The suspect, who left empty-handed, was seen running down Wern Fawr Road making his way towards a track that runs alongside the Park and Ride car park in Fabian Way.
He is described as being white, 5ft 10in tall and in his 30s. He had short hair, dark stubble and was wearing a light-coloured top and white training shoes with a black rim.
Mr Morgan said the victim was not injured but her ordeal had left her severely traumatised.
"I would like to reassure the public incidents of this nature are very rare," he added.
"It is essential we arrest this man before he strikes again. To this end we are following up a number of positive lines of inquiry.
"I would urge anyone with information, irrespective how insignificant they think it is, to come forward."
Anyone with information should contact Morriston CID on 01792 614350 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
