Swansea's boulevard project kicks off next week
SWANSEA’S long- awaited “boulevard” scheme will break ground next week.
The council has brought in contractors to start on the first phase of the project between Princess Way and the Strand on Wednesday.

The boulevard is aimed at improving the look of a key city centre gateway and attracting more investment in future.
It includes better quality and wider pavements, improved routes for cyclists and pedestrians, tree planting, benches, and public art. Traffic light technology along the route will also be improved to help the traffic flow.

Nick Bradley, Swansea council’s cabinet member for regeneration, said: “The works have been designed to ensure minimal disruption to motorists and pedestrians during construction.
“Putting narrow lanes in place will allow work to continue during the daytime while leaving the travelling public unaffected. Works which require lane or carriageway closures will be undertaken at night when advertised temporary traffic orders will also come in to effect.
“We’ll be regularly updating people with information during the project through local newspapers and radio stations, social media and a designated website.”
This first phase lasts until the end of November before a second phase follows between the River Tawe bridges and The Strand on a similar time scale next year.
Further improvements to the pavements and roads will also be made on Adelaide Street and near Swansea Museum.

“Swansea council need to dig themselves out of their financial hole, before they start digging holes in our roads. Whilst your at it Swansea council, fill in the potholes in Fabian way, I was nearly in an accident last week with another motorist because of your failure to fill these pot holes in.”

“What a waste of money,more should be spent on the city centre,shops are closing by the dozen parking is atrocious and expensive spend the money attracting new business to the city and make it look pretty when there are enough people coming to Swansea to appreciate it,councillors need to take a look at what Llanelli has done and take a leaf out of their book if a little town like Llanelli can do it why can't Swansea we pay enough council tax please spend it on something useful.”

“there are two lanes marked for traffic coming out of sainsburys next to the petrol garage heading in the direction of wind street yet drivers position themselves in the middle of the road and block both lanes. why can't drivers see road lane markings ?”

“Evening Post building needs to be demolished, it's going to be an eyesore, they could relocate to a much smaller office on the Swansea Enterprise Zone, much of the building is now redundant.
Weaver flour mill looked better, at least it was a building of historical interest.”

“I don't know about all the hype surrounding the project, but I fully support any efforts to add trees to the streets of Swansea. Hopefully, the Kingsway, Princess Way and Carmarthen Road can similarly become tree lined thoroughfares in the near future.”
