PARENTS of young babies in Swansea are being offered cash incentives to avoid using disposable nappies.

Swansea Council is hoping the offer of £100 will encourage parents to use real nappies instead of disposable ones.

Families in Wales throw away around 200 million disposable nappies every year that end up in landfill sites.

Trish Flint, the council's recycling officer, said: "There's probably a belief that real nappies are a bit messy and take a lot of effort. Real nappies have come a long way in the last few years. They are now shaped and come in a range of funky colours and designs."
