Swansea heroin dealer sent down
A HEROIN dealer whose son died of an overdose in February begins five-and-a-half years behind bars today.
Judge Paul Thomas QC described Swansea man Peter Evans as a significant player in the distribution of "this deadly drug".

Sentencing the 59-year-old at Swansea Crown Court, Judge Thomas said: "Those who deal in heroin, indeed any Class A drug, will almost inevitably receive substantial prison sentences.
"I have no doubt you were aware of that when you embarked upon this scheme.

"You took a risk, and that risk did not come off."
He added: "Heroin is having a major and destructive effect on many parts of this city.
"You were found in possession of a very large quantity of heroin, much of it wrapped for onward commercial supply.
"It was clear that you were a significant player in the distribution of this deadly drug."
What made the case "particularly disgusting", said Judge Thomas, was that his son had died of an overdose of drugs, including heroin, two months before police found 212 grams of the drug in the defendant's rented Copper Quarter flat.
"And yet you were still prepared to spread misery and put other lives at risk," said the judge.
The court heard that police stopped Evans in his BMW while driving in Swansea Enterprise Park on April 24.
Prosecutor Catherine Richards said Evans, of Samuel Crescent, Gendros, looked concerned when they asked him for a key to the flat and said he didn't know what they were talking about.
He then handed it over — but told police the flat was his late son's.
Officers found heroin inside, including 21 bags in a Nescafé jar containing 11 wraps each, worth an estimated £10,225.
Later, officers matched the defendant's fingerprints with those found on the coffee jar, plus DNA on a razor blade.
Prosecutor Catherine Richards said: "The apartment was used principally as a place of business."
Defending, John Hipkin said his client had, after a plea and case management hearing, indicated a guilty plea.

Detective Inspector Jason Davies said: "The sentence passed to Peter Evans displays the criminal justice system's commitment to punishing those responsible for the supply of heroin into South Wales.
"Evans was a significant dealer who chose to continue to supply heroin having personally suffered the worst possible implications of the misery such activity causes."

“Gwyddno - I appear to have misread your original post - but I was not sure why you were saying unintelligent - I was only stating that he was found guilty and perhaps found was the wrong word to use, but this was in response to sexy39 comment that he only pleaded guilty to get his dead son off the hook as you could say. I was just stating the facts that confirmed that his guilty plea was not to get his son of the hook but was infact due to him having some involvment is the drug dealing. Sorry for mis understanding your post. However I am sure you will agree that individuals like this should be locked up.”

To be 'found guilty', as you assert in your post of Friday, October 12 2012, 2:51PM, there would have been a 'not guilty' plea and there would have been a jury.
Weirdly, in your post of Saturday, October 13 2012, 7:36PM, you ask me how I know that the case was clear and then you proceed with statements that indicate precisely that.

“Gwyddno - In the UK a plea and case management hearing is one of the first hearings at the Crown Court, once the case has been sent there from the Magistrates' Court. The accused can enter a plea of guilty or not guilty and if the plea is not guilty, the case management part then takes place.
As he entered a guilty plea I assume he was guilty - where do you get the info from that teh case against the defendant was clear? Unless of course you know this scum personally.
