SWANSEA City fans travelling by public transport to watch their team at the Liberty Stadium can now take advantage of a travel scheme, introduced for the rest of the season.

The Swans have teamed up with transport operators First Great Western, Arriva Trains Wales and First Cymru Buses to offer a seamless travel ticket for fans coming to Swansea by rail.

On arrival at Swansea train station, fans can transfer to First Cymru local bus services using the same ticket at no extra cost.

The free bus travel to the Liberty Stadium will be paid for by the club.

Swansea City chairman, Huw Jenkins, said the new scheme would be a great boost for fans and reward for their fantastic support since the club moved to the Liberty Stadium.

"Not only are we trying to give something back to the fans, but we are also hoping more people will make the environmental switch from car to public transport in a bid to help ease congestion around the stadium on match days," he said.

"The area's three principal transport operators have joined forces with the club to put the deal together, and the special tickets are now available from all railway stations across South and West Wales." Fans can also make use of Swansea's new ftrMetro service — as well as other local bus services — between the rail station and the stadium.

Train times to Swansea can be obtained by calling National Rail Enquiries on 08457 48 49 50 or visiting www.nationalrail.co.uk Local bus information is available from Traveline Cymru on 0871 200 22 33.

    “Achmeds, Uncle

And the point of your comment is?

If you live locally then the free transport is not an issue. If you live a few miles away it will cost you money . If you ltravel by train ( and its only by train remember) then its free. So where will these peopl ebe coming from - hmm lets think - NOT SWANSEA. And they get it free while everybody in Swansea has to pay - well thought out that one. Could this be a Huw Kooze idea ? With such a limited IQ it would not surprise me.”

“what people who live locally to the football stadium dont understand is that , Swnsea City Football is the neaerest league football club to their homes ( thats if you dont include the Welsh League Clubs) the fans are not in a position to get out of bed have breakfast and go to the stadium. Their day out to a football could mean catching a bus, or getting a lift then catching a train then get to the stadium, I applaud this offer of an extra help to getting to the game. If it means the Liberty Stadium fills up a bit and promotes a decent atmosphere and gets behind the team lets say thank-you for something positive for once”

“Mike your right, it's not cheap to travel on a bus these days, not saying that people who live away from Swansea and make the effort to get to the games don't deserve it, but to offer one set of supporters free transport while making the majority pay is just wrong, it should be for all or for non.”

“when i tried to use the free buses last sat ( v sheff utd ) the bus driver said to me that you need to have a bus plus logo on the train ticket, i wasnt informed off this before so i had to pay extra for the bus ticket, so this "free travel" dosent exsist to peoplevwho dont know that. it needs to be told to get the bus plus on the train ticket.”

“Great - so people who live in Swansea have to pay while those who don't travel free.

    Am I missing something here?”
