A MUM-OF-TWO has been banned from entering the city at night after a brawl in Wind Street.

Karen Foley, aged 43, of Townhill Road, Mayhill, has been banned from the city centre for three months.

Swansea Magistrates' Court was told how Foley had hit another woman at least 10 times during the clash. Others became involved in trying to separate the pair and the scene was described as something from a rugby match.

Foley had to be restrained by police.

She pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent when she appeared before Swansea magistrates. The offence happened at 4am on November 25 in Wind Street.

Helen Edwards, prosecuting said the complainant was called Annet Green.

"The defendant left Aspers casino," she said.

"She was followed by the victim."

The court heard there was a dispute and Foley was seen to punch Miss Green to the "face and upper body area at least 10 times".

Mrs Edwards said CCTV recorded the incident and others at the scene who intervened were arrested and given fixed penalty notices.

"The defendant said she was provoked by Miss Green," said Mrs Edwards.

"She said she 'lost it'. She fully admitted punching Miss Green on the floor."

David James, in mitigation, said Foley had no previous convictions.

"She accepts what has happened," he said.

"What she says is there was a high level of provocation. She had been niggling her.

"She and her boyfriend had to leave to get away from her.

"She (Miss Green) followed them out from Aspers.

"The niggling continued, this defendant tried to push the lady away, she pushed her on two occasions.

"The injured party then grabbed hold of my client's arm and they went to the floor."

Mr James said the incident escalated when others tried to intervene between the pair.

"It's like one of those things you see in a rugby match where everybody's piled on and you cannot see who's doing what," he said.

Mr James said police arrived and Miss Green was involved "in a very violent struggle" with officers which resulted in her being taken forcibly to the floor and handcuffed.

He said she was known to Foley and was someone who had "become a bit of a menace".

Foley was sentenced to a three-month community order with an exclusion requirement not to enter Swansea city centre between 8pm and 8am. She must also pay £85 costs.
