Swansea Council 'growing its own' workforce
SWANSEA Council is 'growing its own' workforce in a unique project that aims to recruit the next generation of care workers
Janette Jones, who is the community services manager for learning disabilities, and her colleague Alison Leggett have become Care Ambassadors, whose mission is to open doors for young people into a career caring for other people.
The two have established links with local schools, colleges and job centres and have set up training opportunities.
Janette said: "We have put learning disabilities on the map. People tend to think that to work in care means to work with the elderly or children, which is great, but Swansea also has a population of children and adults with learning difficulties who have a lot to offer and who can be a joy to work with.
