Swansea Council to discuss budget rise
SWANSEA'S ruling cabinet is to discuss the 1.2 per cent increase in funding it will receive from the Welsh Government next year.
The settlement outlines how much grant support the authority can expect which is the first step on helping the council set next year's budget and council tax.
Rob Stewart, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Finance, said: "We have got what we expected and it's in line with our Medium Term Financial Plan (MTFP) so there are no surprises. But it's important to recognise in the current economic climate it's expected the Westminster Government is likely to reduce grants to Wales, which will affect local government in the coming years.
"If so it is likely to have a significant impact on services and the council is already planning for that now. We want to protect valuable, frontline services but we know we face some stark choices in the coming months."
