SWANSEA Council has turned down an application to convert two industrial units in the city into shops.

Rhydian Stevens had applied for permission to change the use of the units at Cwmdu Industrial Estate with a view to potentially housing a cafe/takeaway, travel agency and beauty salon.

The local authority declared retail units at the site would create an undesirable precedent which would result in the sporadic development of retail units outside town and district shopping centres, for which it claims there is no proven need.

“Well done swansea council, when the aim is to generate more life into the city centre the last thing needed is more out of town developments”
