SWANSEA City are sweating on the fitness of Pablo Hernandez ahead of Saturday's trip to Newcastle United.

And boss Michael Laudrup will also run checks on Chico Flores and Ashley Williams before Swansea fly north tomorrow.

Hernandez is nursing an ankle problem picked up at Southampton, while Williams suffered a minor dead leg against the Saints and Flores is still recovering from the dead leg he picked up at Liverpool a fortnight ago.

"We have to see about Pablo, who twisted his ankle last weekend, and also about Chico," Laudrup said.

"Ashley has a dead leg too — it is the time for dead legs at Swansea — but we think he should be okay.

"Unlike Chico, he was able to stay on and finish the game when he got his, and that shows you it is not as serious. I thought Chico would have made it back for Southampton, but he still wasn't right so we will have to see."

Hernandez's problem could see Nathan Dyer restored to Swansea's starting line-up on Tyneside, a move which Laudrup might consider anyway given the Englishman's bright displays of late.

If one of his central defenders does not make it, Laudrup will have no problem playing club skipper Garry Monk once again after his strong performances against Liverpool, Chelsea and Southampton.

It could be that he keeps faith with Monk anyway, for he has let no-one down since his return to the first-team fold.

The Swansea manager's chief selection concern appears to be how to replace Ki Sung-Yueng, who definitely misses out with a hamstring problem.

He could opt for a straight swap with Kemy Agustien, but he could also drop Michu back into midfield and start with either Itay Shechter or Danny Graham up front.

"It's not that I am worried if Chico is not there because I think Garry has done very well in our last two games," Laudrup added.

"Obviously I want Chico to be okay because you want all your players available so you can make the choices you want.

"But I think it's a little more the midfield and the forwards we have to think about this week.

"And then after Newcastle we have three games in six days, so we have to think about that too. We have to be prepared for today and a little for tomorrow as well."
