MICHU has missed out on a place in the Spain squad to face Uruguay next week, after the World Cup champions' manager had previously stated his intention to select the Swansea City forward.

Vicente del Bosque had said in December that he would hand the Swans' top-scorer his first international cap in next Wednesday's friendly, while there was speculation Michu's team-mate Chico Flores could also be in contention for a call-up.

The Spain manager was at Goodison Park last month to watch both players during Swansea's draw 0-0 with Everton, but the only two new faces in the Spain squad are Chelsea's Cesar Azpilicueta and Malaga's Isco.

Speaking about the omission of Michu, former Real Madrid boss del Bosque admitted: "It has been a bit of a bad taste for not calling someone who deserves it. There are many players in those positions."

“Although Michu deserves his shot on their national team, I've to admit I am truly pleased with the news.

The Swans simply can't cope being without Michu now Graham is gone, and having Michu (maybe) injured during an - unimportant - friendly national match, is not in our interest. Surely he will get the chance one day but for now, I prefer the team, him and ML to take us to the "promised land" come later this month and continue their strong performance in the PL.”
