Preston 1 – 3 Swansea City, May 2, 1981

John Toshack's side secured promotion to the First Division – just four years after they were in the Fourth Division – thanks to goals from Leighton James, Tommy Craig and Jeremy Charles at Deepdale.

Swansea City 5 – 1 Leeds United, August 29, 1981

The Swans announced their arrival in the top flight with a spectacular dismantling of the mighty Leeds. Bob Latchford claimed a hat-trick, while there were also goals for Jeremy Charles and, memorably, Alan Curtis.

Swansea City 4 – 2 Hull City, May 3, 2003

James Thomas scored a hat-trick as Swansea, then in financial turmoil, staved off relegation to the Conference on the last day of the season in a nerve-shredding encounter at The Vetch.

Reading 2 – 4 Swansea City, May 30, 2011

Swansea became the first ever Welsh side to reach the Premier League as Scott Sinclair's hat-trick and a goal from Stephen Dobbie in a humdinger of a Championship play-off final at Wembley.

Swansea City 1 – 0 Manchester City, March 11, 2012

Luke Moore's 83rd-minute header gave Swansea the biggest scalp of their debut Premier League campaign, seeing off a Manchester City side which went on to win the title at the end of the season.

Chelsea 0 – 2 Swansea City, January 9, 2013

Swansea took a giant stride towards the Capital One Cup final as Michu and Danny Graham both scored to give them a famous victory in the first leg of the semi-final at Stamford Bridge.

“THE PLASTIC BRIGADE will vote for Chelsea away or Man City home as they would not have a clue what the other games meant, Preston, Leeds, Hull, Reading and many more games were all important to me, you forgot the Palace Cup game at Ninian Park, the Spurs cup game at White Hart Lane, watched them all and loved every minute”

“Has to be the Hull game for me as the implications for going into the Conference were huge and no certain route back to the league. Everything since then has stemmed from that Houdini act.”

“Yesterdays result was great but not the greatest. YET! If we get through the second leg and get to the final, possibly. For me the best result was last season when we gained the points which guaranteed premier league football for another season and hopefully that will be the case this season as well. Whilst it would be great to challenge for silverware the league must come first. I started supporting the Swans in the very early sixties and have seen some cracking games. I do not want to see a team like the last time in the old first division when we were a one hit wonder and then went into freefall, thankfully we have better players now and over the last 5 years or so better managers.”

“The best one was getting into the Premier League as the level of play and media these days is so high and we had that parade through the city and the sun was shining.

Never froget that, including the nerves when gary monk did a lunging tackle to stop reading coming back from 3 goals down. I still say if GM had not got his foot in we would have lost that game.

But beating chelsea 2 nill away who are the current european champions and lining ourself up for a real crack at winning some silverware would be right up there as it would show we are making continued progress and it would be on our centenary year which would be fairytale stuff for everyone involved.

But lets not forget we have blown 3 goal leads at the liberty vs a dire wolves, so I am in no way shape or form booking my wembley tickets just yet.

Make no mistake, chelsea will be playing BA from the start next time and it will be a different threat.

But I hope we can use the mindset of knowing they need to come to us more than we to them to our advantage. We should rest our best players for this, I dont care if we drop a game at PL level to do it.

We are safe, I want that trip to Wembley!”

“It has to be Swansea City 4 – 2 Hull City, May 3, 2003. Some might say The Play off final against Reading, but if we had lost the game against Hull, then life as we know it for Swansea City would be so much different. Might not even be in existence.”
