Former Swansea City midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson signs for Tottenham

Andre-Villas Boas has today made Former Swansea City loanee Gylfi Sigurdsson his first signing as Tottenham head coach.

The former Chelsea boss moved quickly to bring the Hoffenheim midfielder to White Hart Lane after he was appointed Harry Redknapp’s successor yesterday.

Sigurdsson scored seven goals in 18 Premier League appearances for the Swans last season after joining the club in January.

He looked set to join Swansea permanently when personal terms and a club-record fee of £6.8 million were agreed with Hoffenheim in May.

But the move broke down when former Swans boss Brendan Rodgers left to join Liverpool.

Sigurdsson then looked set to follow Rodgers to Anfield, but Tottenham have secured the Icelander’s signature after reportedly offering him significantly larger wages.

    “Spurs have been reported to have offered £20k more than Liverpool in wages, Sigurdsson dragged his feet hoping for Liverpool to match it but they didn't. Liverpool offered him more than Swansea did but he chose Spurs instead. Good luck to him.”
