Swansea City close in on record deal for Wilfried Bony
SWANSEA City are hoping to tie up their club-record signing of Vitesse Arnhem striker Wilfried Bony on Monday.
The fee for the prolific Ivorian, starting at £12 million and rising to a potential £13.75 million through add-ons, would dwarf the previous record of £5.55 million, which Swansea paid for Pablo Hernandez last summer.
It will end a period of protracted negotiations with Dutch side Vitesse, who had stalled on the Swans’ initial offer for the 24-year-old who scored 31 Eredivisie goals in 30 games last season.
Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins had admitted to feeling “frustrated” about Vitesse’s inaction, while Bony’s agent spoke out against the club.
“Why does it take so long? Six months ago, we made arrangements for a lump sum of 12 million (euros), regardless of goals,” Francis Kacou, Bony’s representative, said last week.
“Why is Bony still in Arnhem? We do not know what they want.”
