Swansea City boss Michael Laudrup gives verdict on Manchester United star's Real Madrid red card
MICHAEL Laudrup today had his say on the Nani dismissal which marred Manchester United's Champions League defeat by Real Madrid and declared: "It's never a red card."
United winger Nani was sent off for a high challenge on Real defender Alvaro Arbeloa in Tuesday's last-16 tie at Old Trafford. The contest swung in Real's favour after that, and Turkish referee Cuneyt Cakir's decision has got the whole of football talking.
Former Real player Laudrup reckons Nani was hard done by.
The Swansea City manager said: "I am not for Manchester United or Real Madrid, but I watched the game and it should never, ever have been a red card.
"It's a yellow card for dangferous play yes, but a red card? Absolutely not.
"That's nothing to do with whether it's in the Premier League, the Champions League or La Liga. It's just a bad decision by the referee.
"Referees are human and they will make mistakes, there's no problem with that. But people comment on when a manager makes a mistake or a team does not play well, so we are allowed to sat when a referee has a poor performance, and that was a very, very poor decision."
