SWANSEA City crashed to a second successive Premier League defeat as goals from Nacho Monreal and Gervinho proved decisive for Arsenal at the Liberty.

Michael Laudrup's side started well, but then the heavens opened and a prolonged heavy downpour seemed to upset the hosts' rhythm.

Passes went astray and Arsenal began to gain the upper hand.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain twice struck the bar, while Michel Vorm held another effort from Santi Cazorla in the first half.

Swansea too had chances, the best of which fell to Michu.

The Spanish forward turned and screwed a shot just wide after receiving a pass from Jonathan de Guzman and saw another shot saved only to be flagged offside.

Arsenal broke the deadlock with 16 minutes remaining.

Cazorla's cross came back to Monreal whose scruffy shot found a way past Vorm and into the net.

As Swansea pushed for an equaliser, they were hit on the break in injury-time.

Pablo Hernandez lost possession and the ball was moved quickly forwards to Aaron Ramsey who picked out Gervinho and the substitute swept home.

“If we're honest it's no disgrace to lose to Arsenal who are one of the top sides in the premier league. We have had decent results against them and other top teams but it's not realistic to expect a good result every time we play. There are probably seven teams in the premier league who are at a very high level, both playing wise and financially and any points taken from them either home or away is excellent. The rest of the division is made up of teams we should beat and teams where the result could go either way. Which ever way you look at it, over the last couple of years we have been punching way above our weight and getting some very good results along the way. To finish mid table or above would represent a very good season and should be something that is achievable, but to expect to finish in the top seven is, to put it mildly, hopeful at best. Not impossible but not likely at the moment, we've only been in he premier league for 2 seasons, there's no great rush. We are a far far better side now than when we made it to the old 1st division. It's still very possible for us to get 50 points and that in itself would represent a very successful season, and place us above several well established clubs.”
