Swansea City: Rodgers deal a huge boost
HUW Jenkins reckons Swansea City are about to secure the future of a star as Brendan Rodgers finalises a new Liberty Stadium contract.
Swansea hope Rodgers's fresh three-year deal will be rubber- stamped this week.

The new agreement is good news for Rodgers, who has been rewarded for his spectacular success since he took over from Paulo Sousa in July 2010.
And it is also a major boost for Swansea, who can look forward to another three seasons under their bright young boss while knowing that they have increased protection should another club try to tempt him away.
While Rodgers's new agreement will mean increased financial rewards for him, it is also expected to include a sizeable compensation clause in case he is poached by a rival.
"Brendan's new contract is very good news," said Swansea chairman Jenkins.
"We are under no illusions about the fact that we have got one of best young managers around working for our club.
"Brendan has shown what he is capable of over the last couple of seasons and what he has done for us has been very pleasing.
"He is very important to us and that's not going to change, so it was very, very important to get the contract sorted out."
Rodgers led Swansea to promotion from the Championship in his first season in SA1.
And this season, despite the club's financial shortcomings, he has steered the team into mid-table in the Premier League.
With 30 points on the board already, Swansea are just ten away from the traditional mark which guarantees top-flight survival — and they still have 14 league games to play.
Swansea's progress has come as a result of stylish, attractive football, and Rodgers is being touted as a candidate to manage a bigger club as a result.
But Jenkins and Co in the Swansea boardroom hope the Northern Irishman's fresh contract will ensure they do not lose another talented young manager, as happened when Roberto Martinez left for Wigan two and a half years ago.
"The agreement on the contract is all in place," Jenkins added.
"It is just pending legal approval now, and that's a formality really so it should be concluded very soon."
Former Watford and Reading manager Rodgers has been working on a one-year rolling deal at Swansea up until now.
The club first mentioned the possibility of a longer-term deal last summer, but Rodgers put off talks initially because he wanted to focus on securing deals for his key players.

“Brendan moved from Watford to Reading and it didn't work out as expected. I'm sure he will not make the same mistake again. Brendan Rodgers and Swansea City are a perfect fit.”

“Good job, hopefully brendan will stick around for a long time.
He's well liked and respected, and I don't think there are many other managers in football with the high's he's got at the moment. And assuming we surive this year, I reckon his good times are set to continue.
You only need to look at players like Dorus/Pratley to see that the grass is not always greener on the other side, the better the club, the more cut throat the fans/board, look at what they did to the QPR manager after only 6 months, and he took them up from the Championship.
Its a dog eat world in football, but I reckon with the Welsh values of swansea we have different vibe and a rare one.
We play some of the best looking footy in the league and the best teams are walking away from the Liberty with their tails between their legs, with single players costing more than our entire team, and showing money isn't everything.
If we can refine our away form (as we are) we'll be a top 10 club al lday long, and probably the best club in the division based on money spent, that counts for something, anyone can spend 250 millions and buy a dream team. That does not make a good manager.”

“This is certainly very good news and make sure HJ that after signing, the pen used is then placed in the trophy cabinet because it will form part of Swansea City's history.”
