KEMY Agustien could make his first Premier League start of the season at Newcastle on Saturday, with Ki Sung-Yueng likely to be ruled out through injury.

Ki pulled his hamstring in the closing stages of Swansea City's draw at Southampton on Saturday.

He will undergo a scan to determine the extent of the injury today, but it is extremely unlikely the South Korean will be fit for the trip north.

"Until he has the scan we won't know for sure," said Swansea boss Michael Laudrup. "I think we are looking at around ten days, but we'll see.

"It's bad news but it's part of football. When it is only one or two weeks it is not too bad.

"With the experiences we have had this season with Neil (Taylor) and Kyle (Bartley), it's not that much.

"It's looking like maybe one or two games but we have to live with that. It gives chances to other people.

"Garry Monk has just played two and a bit games so that's why we say people have to be ready because suddenly you can be needed.

"With the number of games we play, you have to be ready."

Agustien returned from injury to come off the bench in the dying minutes of Saturday's match.

That was the Dutchman's third Premier League appearance this term, while his only start came against Barnsley in the Capital One Cup.

Another option open to Laudrup is to recall Danny Graham up front and push Michu back into midfield.

A back problem meant last season's top scorer didn't travel to St Mary's, but he is expected to be at full fitness this week.

Mark Gower is the only other fit senior midfielder in Swansea's squad.

"Danny should be fine in a couple of days, but instead of bringing him to Southampton when he was doubtful I told him to stay home," added Laudrup.

"We will start again from Monday with him, he is working hard and wants to come back.

"He is a goalscorer but he has paid the price because we have played three midfielders and Michu because it has worked well.

"I know it's not easy because he wants to play but I have no complaints about how he is training."

“Yes, have to agree with the comments made so far.

Ki has improved game-on-game since a worrying debut against Barnsley in the C1/Cup, and when available would now be a first-pick.

I can also understand the possibility of Schecter (or Graham) being touted to play up-front against Newcastle. While we might want to flood the mid-field (again) against the Geordies, we don't carry such a threat going forward when we do - the way we took it to Man City where we deserved a point we didn't get, was in marked contrast to the Southampton performance where we got a point we may have been a bit fortunate to have picked up given the lack of threat on the Southampton goal over the whole game.

Perhaps Plan A on Saturday should be to keep Newcastle at bay, so play Augustein; but if this doesn't work, Plan B should include a heavy presence of forwards on the bench - Schecter, Graham and Luke Moore - if we need to come from behind. Newcastle are unlikley to be as generous as Southampton were, especially after losing at home to West Ham last time out. They won't want to do the same against us, so it could be a tough one. Settle for last year's result up there, but above all, keep putting in the performances like we did against Man C, Liverpool and Chelsea when the lads were magnificent.”

“i think this is more of keeping mitchu in the team , as it was quite obvious that we were not strong enough in midfield playing both, but in saying that, we are now not scoring since dropping graham, MITCHU'S position is a luxury ,as we saw last year with dobbie playing there, my team for saturday upfront, graham ,dyer ,hernandes britton ,dg and augustien , and go for the one point”

“I have a feeling that all is not as it seems with the Danny Graham situation. He is not the player he was last season for us and looks completely out of sorts and with ML asking categorically stating he is looking for a striker in January could it be that he is not doing something right in training which is why Great Dane is not picking him for his starting line up.”

“Kiwill be a big loss for us as over the last few games he has proven to be a huge asset for us as he is belcoming one of our main game players with his passing skills, strength and shootingbut I am sure Kemy will fill his boots well as beofre he got injured he was playing really well.”
