Surgeon was true diamond
I was shocked and saddened to read about the death of Mike Chare, former consultant cancer surgeon (Post, August 10).
He was a wonderful man, he helped so many.
My meeting with him is etched deeply in my mind when I was diagnosed seven years ago with breast cancer. I was inconsolable. I remember begging the nurse to tell me if I was going to die, she said she couldn't say, Mr Chare intervened and said: "No you're not going to die," he dispelled my anxieties with his comforting manner.
He took away my cancer and he took away my fear and like many of his other patients he gave me life. I was one of the lucky ones.
He is a diamond in the necklace of life. You have left your footprints on many hearts, Mr Chare.
Thank you so very much.
