Surfer out to make waves on the plinth
A TEENAGER is aiming to make waves in the art world when he reveals his latest work — himself.
Jashan Legg has been chosen to take part in the One and Other project in London's Trafalgar Square, which gives members of the public the chance to spend an hour each on top the vacant fourth plinth at the landmark.

The idea behind the unusual artwork is to present a snapshot of the people who make up Britain, as well as giving them a platform to champion a cause.
And for 17-year-old Jashan that cause is the health of the sea. The keen surfer from Llanmadoc, Gower, said: "I've been in the sea all my life, and I've seen some of the problems we have with sewage, oil spills and pollution at first hand.
"I want to get people thinking about the issues, and I wanted to do something that stands out.
"When I heard I had been picked to go on the plinth I contacted the Surfers Against Sewage campaign group."
So, come Saturday morning, the former Ysgol Gyfun Gwyr pupil will be standing in the middle of London in surf gear, with board and a gas mask, to highlight the plight of the oceans.
The One and Other project, the brainchild of the man behind the iconic Angel of the North sculpture, Antony Gormley, will see 2,400 people occupy the plinth for an hour each, 24 hours a day, every day for 100 days.
The living sculptures are being broadcast on the internet day and night — with Jashan taking the stage at 8am on Saturday.
Participants in the project, chosen at random from all those who applied, can use their time in the limelight as they like — to perform, to demonstrate, or simply to reflect.
Those taking part so far have included a male nurse from Brighton who spent the hour twiddling his thumbs in homage to the great British bloke and a mum-of-two holding a balloon in support of the NSPCC.
Jashan is following in the footsteps of Andrew Deathe from St Thomas in Swansea, who spent an hour on the plinth last month. The young surfer, who is heading for the capital tomorrow, said: "I think what Antony Gormley is doing is really cool.
"I'm a bit nervous about being up there, but I'm looking forward to it."
