Super-saver pupils aim to cook up success with venture
THE Graigos Café is open for business.
Youngsters at Craigfelen Primary in the Swansea Valley have opened a cafe close to the school, where pupils serve visitors and parents help out in the kitchen.

Based in a community hall just down the street from the school, it has already served up its first breakfasts and plans to offer a place for people to meet over tea and toast on Friday mornings.
The venture follows the success of the school's Spider Junior Savers Club, set up just over a year ago. And pupils who have proven themselves as bankers from savers club are managing the cafe, while classmates have been appointed waiters and parents help with hot food preparation.

Headteacher Alison Williams said: "This is a truly pupil-led project. "The response from pupils and parents has been tremendous.
"We hope it will provide a much needed meeting place to bring the whole community together. We are delighted at how well the school bank has been managed by the pupils and received by parents and the community. It has encouraged saving, boosted numeracy and sparked an entrepreneurial spirit."
To get the project off the ground, pupils have been working with Communities First, and other groups to produce a business plan. Collaborative Communities, Regional Learning Partnership, Business in the Community and Enterprise in the Valleys to produce a business plan.
Pupil Nathan Hills, who won a High 5 young achievers award last year for managing the Craigfelen Spiders Junior Savers Club, said: "The café will be an excellent way of bringing the community together. As we are all already very good junior bankers, all the money that we make from our café will go into our new business account with the local LASA Credit Union."
Among the first visitors to the cafe was AM Edwina Hart.
