THE heat is being turned up on a campaign led by Swansea East MP Sian James to ban children from using sunbeds.

Ms James was joined by campaigners in bikinis at Westminster as she urged fellow MPs to back a new law which would stop under-18s using tanning salons.

Unmanned salons have resulted in girls as young as 11 being admitted to hospital in South Wales with serious burns, while doctors point to the link between using sunbeds and skin cancer.

A bill promoted by Ms James has its final reading in the House of Commons tomorrow, and she is urging MPs to help it onto the statute book.

"We must not miss this opportunity to make progress,"she said. "A delay at this point could derail several years of hard work and I urge everyone to support this much-needed legislation."

So far the legislation, which is supported by both the Government and other parties, has met with little opposition from MPs.
