South Wales Evening Post

I'M 85 and would like to say I'm from a very large family and was brought up on lard and butter.

Three-quarters of us lived to 70 and 80 and nearly 90, and a lot of people who were in school with me are still living in their 80s and like me were brought up on butter and lard, it incenses me when we are constantly told these products are not good for you, we never had cancer on the scale of today.

I say stop eating the rubbish foods of today with all their additives and go back to good food. Facts are facts.

I've wanted to write this for a long time — with all the money that has been ploughed into cancer research people are still dying in their thousands.

“A dozen bananas a day during the war? Was this some kind of dockers hidden bonus, because fresh fruit was all but impossible to obtain not only during the war, but afterwards too.

As for large numbers of people living up to 90 years of age, I can point you to graveyards of people born in the 1920's who didn't. Some didn't get beyond their first few years and those who did copped their lot during the *banana* period.”

“My father is just over 90 year old. He tells me that when he started work at aged 13 his own father would make him a large fry up before he set off to work. This included tipping all the fat from the pan all over the food as well. This went on for several years. Mind you my father also tells me that all this unhealthy eating was counteracted during the war when he ate up to a dozen banana's each day.”
