Steps taken to stamp out the sale of DNP
PUBLIC protection officers in Carmarthenshire have joined forces with the Food Standards Agency to stamp out the sale of a fat burning substance.
Action is being taken over DNP, or 2,4 Dinitrophenol, which some people are using within the body building community and dieters are relying on to help them to lose weight.
Under the crackdown a bulletin was emailed to nationwide gym chains and a science blog by the Agency's Head of Chemical Risk Assessment on the effects of DNP and the impact of what it does to the body was posted.
Councillor Jim Jones, the council's executive board member for public protection, said: "We are aware of this substance and officers have already purchased and tested products that might contain it. DNP is a concern." Contact on 01267 234567 if you are aware of DNP sales.
