Star performance will shine in memory of young Harry
TALENT from across South Wales will this weekend pay tribute to a young Swansea Valley boy killed in a tragic accident — and help raise money in his memory.
Pontardawe Arts Centre hosts Good Night Little Star on Sunday evening, with a cast which includes Torchwood star Kai Owen, the Ospreys Orpheus Choir, singers Kate Leonard and Richard Burman, as well as the West Glamorgan Youth Theatre, the Harry Secombe Choir, dancer Emma Turtle and popular story teller Owen Staton.
The event has been organised to help raise money for Harry's Fund, set-up by parents of Alltwen five-year-old Harry Patterson, who died in September.
An inquest later recorded a verdict of accidental death, after the youngster died when the family car struck him after rolling down the steep driveway to the family home.
Harry's parents Michelle and Christian hope to use Harry's Fund to establish a small family park in Alltwen.
And, inspired by the support they received from neighbours and the wider community as they grieved for their son, they also hope to help families in similar tragic circumstances, who may not have the same support.
Michelle said: "There are so many people who have agreed to take part and we are very grateful.
"Harry was in a story-telling session held by Owen Staton and he loved it so much, he was glued to him listening.
"We are still talking about creating a park for Harry in Alltwen, and we are determined to make it happen."
The event also features a raffle and auction, including exclusive prizes including two tickets for the gala night of new West End musical Top Hat, an Arctic Monkey's limited edition box set and signed poster, a donation from the Football Association of Wales, and tickets to see Anita Dobson and Greta Scachhi in Bette and Joan at Swansea's Grand Theatre — complete with a stay in the Marriott Hotel.
The show, which will also feature a performance with Kai Owen by Harry's dad Christian, is to be hosted by entertainer Kev Johns.
He said: "I wanted to be involved on every level, and hopefully we can raise as much money as possible.
"Christian is such a fantastic performer, he and Michelle are such a lovely couple and they are a beautiful family. I am sure it will be a great success."
