Stags called to visit city for strip bar
STAG parties looking for naked dancers could soon be heading to Swansea.
Plans are in place to transform the former Jager Bar on York Street into a venue offering fully nude performances.
The venue, which will be called Bellissima, is yet to receive a sex entertainment licence but an application has been made to Swansea Council and a decision is likely to be made in April.
The Evening Post reported on proposals for the club in January.
The initial report has been reproduced on a website promoting stag parties under the headline: "Stag Parties Rejoice — Naked Dancers Come to Swansea!"
The site also promotes Seven Sisters-based training company Call of the Wild.
A spokesman for the firm declined to comment.
Bellissima is the first venture of Thomas-Bellis Leisure.
The firm's director Paul Thomas said: "Thomas-Bellis Leisure had no prior knowledge of the article posted on the website mentioned.
"We hope to attract a diverse clientele, however they must all abide by our strict club policies that will be formulated in accordance with the legislation set out by the City and County of Swansea's provisions, as well as our own club etiquette. "Breaches of these policies may result in the person or persons being excluded from our licensed premises."
Swansea West MP Geraint Davies has said the venue will not do Swansea any favours.
He said: "My view is that having a female striptease venue opposite a family cinema, near to the main street for bars and clubs, will just narrow the offer that Swansea gives rather than broaden it.
"I don't think it is something that really does Swansea a lot of favours."
Mr Thomas said: "We respect the personal opinion of Mr Davies.
"We would like to re-iterate that any external advertising would show no more than the trading name Bellissima.
"There would be no other advertising nor promotion relating to the operation inside the venue.
"The operating schedule has been designed with our neighbouring businesses and their customers at the very fore front of our decisions thus far.
"The hours of operation will be from 10pm until 4am.
"We hope to work closely with members and representatives of the public such as Mr Davies and welcome any input to achieve the same goal of broadening Swansea."

“If my daughter decides that she wants to work in a place like this, she can go and do so. it's not what I'd promote as my number 1 career choice because it's never going to be the longest lasting most stable career, but if she's not shy and men will pay to look at her body in a place where she is surrounded by security and is safe, then she can do what she likes. In places like this the bouncers are so quick to chuck out anyone who even thinks about over stepping the mark and trying to touch a girl or harrass her.”

“Is there any woman that would like to see their granddaughter working in this place? Or any man who would like his granddaughter swinging around on a pole.”

“You go ahead Birchgrove. My only concern is that it's too far out of town for it to make much money :)”

“I really don't understand why there is such a big fuss. This will make such a small impact on the numbers of people coming into Swansea for a night out, one little bar with a few naked dancers/bar maids won't bring the whole city crumbling to it's knees. Swansea's got more obvious brothels then anywhere else in the UK I've lived and is about the only place not to have some kind of dedicated strip club/topless dancer place.
I don't rmember this kind of fuss when that Vice club above Potters Wheel had topless dancers every week!”

“@MelonCollie - So a single failed business several years ago should be a marker? Err, I don't think so. Otherwise we wouldn't have any shops or bars in Swansea.
The door-charge in clubs as dropped as the prices inside have risen. Few clubs can justify charging more than a fiver simply for the warmth of a club, when others will let you in for free.”
