STAFF and patients at Swansea's Morriston Hospital are taking part in a number of events to celebrate World Kidney Day next week.

Officials say the event, on Thursday, March 14, is an opportunity to provide free health checks and advice on possible prevention of kidney disease.

Dr Adekunle Adesina, consultant physician at Morriston Hospital, said: "Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) occurs when the kidneys suddenly fail to work.

"AKI may result in sudden decrease in passage of urine, with dramatic consequences including death.
