Staff at Morfa Afan residential home in Sandfields hope for Cymorth Cymru prize
DEDICATED care workers from Port Talbot will find out today if they have won a Welsh award.
Staff at the Morfa Afan residential home, in Sandfields, have been short-listed for a prize from Cymorth Cymru, an umbrella body for organisations working with vulnerable people.
They are in the top team category of the 2012 Promoting Independence Awards, which salute excellence in the housing-related support, homelessness and supported living sectors.
Winners were due to be announced at a ceremony taking place in Cardiff today. Morfa Afan in Dalton Road, provides care to over-65s with conditions such as mental ill health and dementia.

It is managed by the Swansea-based Grwp Gwalia organisation.
Gwalia care director Mark Lewis said: "We're proud of the staff at Morfa Afan.
"The atmosphere they create is first rate and the relationship between them and residents is brilliant."
The staff have been short-listed for their work in meeting residents' needs, making the home a friendly, stimulating environment and providing a high level of care for the people living there.
Morfa Afan manager Karen Rogers said staff went the extra mile to ensure residents could take part in activities they enjoyed.
Karen added: "When finances to fund these activities are low, staff organise fundraising events.
"Last year we raised £3,000 with an outdoor music event. This enabled us to put on craft activities, buy gardening equipment and plants and to arrange trips to Porthcawl and Tenby."
