“with the millions that was spent on campaigning for this election, would it not have been better to spend the money on more police officers rather than wasting tax payers money on mickey mouse ideas. Just another example of wasted funds during a recession.”

“Standard procedure following resignation of an MP of a political party:
1. Chief Whip of party, at the start of proceedings in the HoC, moves a motion to command the Speaker to issue a warrant.
2. The Speaker issues a warrant to the Clerk of the Crown in Chancery.
3. The writ issued by Chancery fixes the date of the byelection.

Given the information that I've listed, do you think that the Tories fixed the date of the Corby byelection?
DDTrebs
The Tories in Westminster hold the purse strings and they are reducing police resources by a huge amount e,g. cutting police jobs by over 30,000.”

“With such a low turnout it might be said that none of the candidates won. They all lost.”

“If ever there was an engineered election. Alun Michael, stands down as MP in a safe Labour seat, then stands for Labour as PCC. Election & byelection held on same day (Labour's choice) boosting number of labour voters turning out, guranteeing Michael a win. Zimbabwe type of democracy.”

“What a strange election. Nobody really understood what or who they were voting for. Millions spent on polling staff and schools closed. Very poor publicity across the media and candidates desperately fundraising for money to keep the campaigns going.
I honestly think that an appointment like this should be a non-political one. It will be interesting to see what happens closer to the next elections. For example if Alun Michael is confirmed as the winner, what are the bets that police resources will be concentrated on those safe or marginal Labour seats.”

“SWEP put more info on the topic!
What was the turnout? Info on BBC website is 15.1% - that's pathetic.
How many empty ballot boxes? Leave this one for you to find out.
Then again you do like to publish half stories.”
