Sousa's Zak bid zapped by hip op
SWANSEA City's bid for Zak Whitbread looks set to be shelved after the Millwall defender was ruled out for up to three months.
Paulo Sousa had identified Whitbread as the man to bolster his defensive options.
But Swansea look sure to switch their focus to alternative targets because Whitbread has undergone surgery on a troublesome hip problem.
The 25-year-old American played no part in Millwall's pre-season because of the injury, and now faces a lengthy spell of rehabilitation which is likely to keep him out of first-team action until November.

Meanwhile, Sousa has finally begun streamlining Swansea City's squad by sending Jamie Grimes out on loan.
The 18-year-old defender, who signed his first professional deal this summer, is to spend the season playing with Welsh Premier League outfit Haverfordwest.

“Whilst in future years a chief executive might be needed by the club the current board have served the city and the club proudly.
Steady , yet ambitious development is ongoing and a healthy family orientated Swansea City is still on the up.
For the championship we've a prestige facility in the Liberty stadium .
The playing surface and the stadium is a massive positive for the club. It's agreat stage let's get the players in to grace that stage
The Martinez bond was such that his loss enveloped all. Good luck to Roberto. History will hold him as a remarkable Swansea City manager, a visionary as per John Toshack for us.
Another chapter opens. With the right player investment the club can improve on last season.
The last few years have brought great promotions but 25 years prior to that were not Swansea's greatest.
But significantly, the Swans now have a growing fanbase and a stadium which is one of the best in the Championship. So let's not sell ourselves short. Some proper player strengthening and who knows?”
