A SWANSEA man has pleaded guilty to knifing his partner's son in the stomach.

Alan Thomas Rees seriously injured 20-year-old Nicholas Andrew Rees at a flat in the city's Sketty Park area in December.

Rees, aged 46, of Mansel Street, also assaulted his partner, Karen Rees, in the incident at her Clyne Court home.

He has been in custody since being remanded by magistrates two days after the attacks.

Legal issues in Rees's case were discussed yesterday when he appeared at Swansea Crown Court before Judge John Diehl QC.

When the indictment was read out by the court clerk, Rees admitted wounding Nicholas Rees with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and causing actual bodily harm to Karen Rees.

He denied a more serious charge of attempting to murder Nicholas Rees in the December 28 incident and was formally cleared of this after his not guilty plea was accepted by prosecutor Francis Jones.

Former warehouse worker Rees will be sentenced next month once a probation officer has visited him in prison to prepare a background report.

After being knifed by the defendant, Nicholas Rees underwent a stomach operation at Morriston Hospital and was treated in the high-dependency unit there before being discharged last month.

Karen Rees's injuries included a cut hand, the court heard.

Adjourning for two weeks, the judge told the defendant: "There must be a pre-sentence report in this case."
