FUNDRAISERS from a Swansea branch of a building society have been helping to raise thousands of pounds for a children's charity.

Members of Leeds Building Society in Union Street helped to raise £8,500 for this year's Children in Need appeal, in a combined fundraising effort with staff at their head office.

Donations were given by the public right across all of its 65 UK branches.

Workers have helped to raise the sum by donating £2 to take part in a non-uniform day and have been collecting cash for Children in Need from people.

Swansea branch manager David Owen said: "The current total of £8,500 could rise still further as we will continue to accept donations for the appeal in Swansea until the end of the year. We are so pleased to have achieved this."
