Skill levels are improving across Wales in technology, according to new findings
SKILL levels are dramatically improving in Wales as technology industries are rising in value, new findings show.
Research from the 2013 Skills Survey of ESTnet, the Electronic and Software Technologies Network for Wales, show a large number of directors and managers within the industry now hold post-graduate qualifications.
The findings also show many firms in Wales have forged key links with universities, with 35 per cent involved in joint research and development projects and 20 per cent in knowledge transfer partnerships.
Ian Menzies of General Dynamics, who is chairman of the ESTnet, said the figures from the study showed how sophisticated the technology industries had become.
It now includes 520 companies, employing nearly 24,000 people and generating £7 billion in turnover each year.
He said: “This is even more impressive when we consider how these industries in Wales underpin innovation and new product development across many different markets.”
