Skate parks are pathetic
SWANSEA, Mumbles and Gower, being a coastal area, has a massive skate and surfing culture and I was just wondering with the epidemic of drug-taking that has recently been highlighted in the Evening Post why Swansea Council doesn't plough money into updating the skate parks in the area.
Last summer I took my kids and friends to Cardiff Skate Plaza and it was amazing — kids of all ages mixing, plus grandparents and parents enjoying watching the skaters.
The skate parks in the area are outdated and to be honest a bit pathetic in comparison to what other places are doing.
Swansea has always been concerned with property development and the tourism industry, but what about our kids?

The indoor skate park is amazing, but give these kids something outside to head for, something free, somewhere they can be young and have a laugh and enjoy themselves.
Swansea City Football Club has recognised the need to inspire youngsters in the area and they are doing a really good job, however not all kids are into football.
This is a simple letter suggesting we give the masses of kids in the area who have got a skateboard attached to their feet for much of their youth somewhere to hang out.
There are kids out there who are looking for any excuse NOT to do drugs and they need our care, finances and support.

“Yep I have to agree here Tamsin, our entertaining parks are mm well....DUH. with not much else to add. Our council are trying very hard to bring about sporting along with sea activities, their slowly getting there, I've walked along the prom and saw the may fitness contraptions in place, some times broken would you believe! also at the Fendod lake, which takes further costings into account on repairing or replacing them. Yes I would like to see a skating rink be sited, possibly part of the rec springs to my mind. Swansea City citizens and tourists are also crying out for an ice rink, which after watching people crowded within the winter wonderland, surely this is a must, but please lets not get overboard on renting out equipment, keep it within all family budgets.”
