Seriously ill patients at Swansea's Morriston Hospital are given a boost
CRITICALLY ill patients at a Swansea hospital have been given a boost thanks to friends of the NHS site.
The cash has been raised for those being cared for at Morriston Hospital's emergency department thanks to a fundraising golf tournament held by the League of Friends.
They gifted the department with a Belmont Rapid Transfuser — worth £10,000.
It allows staff to give blood transfusions to patients quickly when they arrive at the unit following a serious accident or trauma.
The equipment also helps to warms the blood to body temperature, reducing the risk of hypothermia or coagulopathy, a condition which can stop the blood clotting.
Dr Dindi Gill, Consultant in Emergency Medicine, said they were grateful for the funding and added: "Thank you very much to the League of Friends."
