Llanelli Star

A SENIOR member of medical staff at Prince Philip Hospital has called for the people of Llanelli to join together to stop services being "snatched" from the town.

The whistle blower, who has spoken out anonymously for fear of losing his job, claims to be representing hundreds of members of hospital staff, including doctors, nurses and ward clerks.

His comments come as 50 senior members of medical staff at Aberystwyth's Bronglais declared a vote of no confidence in Hywel Dda health board (see page 4), and just days before Llanelli residents are given a chance to have their say on the health board's controversial proposals at a public engagement event (see page 5).

Outlining several areas of extreme concern, the doctor described himself as a "silent spectator", who has "finally decided to open up and disclose all that is happening against the people of Llanelli and their surroundings".

He claims that changes to services in Llanelli have been long discussed by bosses and fears dire results if proposals outlined by the health board are pushed through.

"Unfortunately, if the changes to our health service are going to go ahead, there will be unnecessary deaths and loss of lives," he said.

"It's now in the hands of the people of Llanelli to join together and fight those who don't think of our existence and the difference it makes.

"I want local politicians to look into the matters carefully before surrendering."

Concern

The doctor congratulated staff at Prince Philip Hospital for continuing to serve the people of Llanelli despite working in an environment of 'stress and concern'.

"I can proudly write and challenge that Prince Philip is the best service provider, not only in the region, but in the whole country," he said.

"Yes, we have had a couple of incidents, but after that we have improved to the highest possible standards.

"This is not just a statement, but people who have been treated at Prince Philip are a living proof of satisfaction.

"We don't want this place to be ruined and snatched from our people just because of a few managers and consultants in Carmarthen who never wanted our existence right from the very beginning."

An official petition calling for services to be restored at PPH has been launched. See page 5.

“I can`t believe people have to fight to save a Hospital and its` services, what a disgraceful situation. Not only Hywel Dda but The Morons in The Assembly should hang their heads in shame. The NHS in Wales and The UK for that matter will never be managed effectively, whilst politicians are involved.”

Come and join the fight to save our hospital”
