A spokesman for Amazon said thousands of UK employees initially on temporary contracts have moved into permanent roles in the last three years.
“We are a company in growth and when we have permanent positions to fill, it’s the top performing temporary employees that we look to,” Catherine McDermott said.
The creation of the seasonal roles at the Jersey Marine warehouse comes shortly after the opening of Amazon’s eighth UK fulfilment centre, in Hemel Hempstead, which will create 600 permanent jobs. Amazon has also announced that it will create 2,000 additional permanent new jobs at three further UK fulfilment centres over the next two years.

“Not great if you're a temporary worker...Amazon are appalling. They take temps on and off as and when they like and, whatever they say, there is very little hope of permanent employment. Temps work long hours and it's hard to get time off. You get a 'strike' against you even if you're sick. Amazon are disgusting...”

“It's great at the moment that they are taking on people, but the busier they get the less buisness the shops in the town's and cities are getting, which mean they will not survive, and that leads to the death of walking around the centre of our towns and cities as we know it.”
