Sea fishing contest back for 80th year
MAINWARING'S Angling Centre's 80th anniversary sea fishing competition takes place at Swansea Breakwater on Sunday, January 15.
There are huge prizes up for grabs with first prize being £700 plus 50 per cent of the pool.
This event is limited to 200 pegs with the match fished to SWWASAC rules. The draw takes place at 7am at Fabian Way Park and Ride. Fishing is 8.30am to 12.30pm.
The presentation will take place at 2pm at Swansea Dockers Club. Entry fee is £15 plus £5 pool. Book now at Mainwaring's Angling Centre.
This will be a Penn points match.
Last Sunday's Loughor Boating Club's Flounder Festival attracted a good turnout with 298 seniors, 21 juniors and 18 ladies taking part.
The junior anglers out-fished the seniors with some impressive fish. Damian O'Mara took top spot with a winning flounder of 940grm, picking up the £1,250 prize money plus £133 share of the pool. In second place was Philip George, who picked up £500 plus £89 pool for his 860grm flounder.
Third was David Carmichael 840grm (£250), fourth Peter Evans 835grm (£50), fifth Andy Morris 824grm (£40), sixth Daniel Jones 820grm (£25), joint seventh Marsden Foulkes and Stephen Phillips 780grm (£25), ninth Luke Smith 775grm (£25) and tenth John Rees 755grm (£25).
The Other Species prize of £500 was won by Andrew Morris with a bass of 910grm.
First-placed junior was Shauna Makan with a flounder of 1,015grm and she picked up a rod, reel and tackle box.
Second was Carly Harrison 1,010grm (rod and reel), joint third Imogine Howan and Kelsey Pratt 635grm (tackle bag), fifth Callum Kilsby 525grm (spinning rod) sixth Ella Scobers 480grm (spinning reel) and seventh Cory Hackley 435grm (spinning reel).
The Ladies Rose Bowl was not won.
