School trips too expensive
I WONDER if, like me, many parents are feeling pressured when our children come home from school with a letter stating the school's intention of arranging a holiday abroad, for possibly one week or more, under the supervision of members of staff.
From experience I know the cost per child can be in the high hundreds and is a major consideration for many parents.
In these times of financial hardship it is not difficult to understand the pressure the parents will feel under. Peer pressure among the children is an added problem and can cause friendships to fail if the child is refused the opportunity to go.
All parents would like to be in the position to let their child be part of such a venture, and it can be a wonderful opportunity to broaden knowledge of other cultures. My concern is the high cost burden placed on the family when the cost of running the family home is under such pressure.

“How right you are. Schools behave, in this and all sorts of other ways, as though parents had bottomless pockets. This puts enormous pressure on the parents who do not want to disappoint their children and to cause them to feel left out. This leads to endless worry and debts for many parents. Schools should think more about the impact and consequences of what they are demanding of parents.”
