School staff in flying visit to engineer firm
TEACHERS and schools careers advisers from Swansea have touched down at global engineering company Airbus in Bristol.
They were there to gain an insight into the world of engineering.
Organised by Careers Wales West and Engineering UK, the event was one of a series that equips teachers with information on engineering careers and pathways they can recommend to their pupils.
Among the visiting party were teachers from Pentre- hafod school in Swansea, and Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera in the Swansea Valley.
They heard presentations from Careers Wales West and Engineering UK, as well as from a mechanical engineer about how to get into the sector.
The event also involved a tour of the plant, where teachers got to see the wing assembly line and landing gear rig, followed by a visit to a Concorde which is housed permanently on-site.
Careers Wales West chief executive Ray Collier said: "Airbus is a world-leader in the manufacture of commercial and military aircraft, so we're very pleased to offer teachers the chance to gain information about their technological, research and developments in the industry."
