Scarlets suffer double injury setback
THE Scarlets will be without versatile backs Steve Shingler and Gareth Owen for Friday’s RaboDirect Pro12 clash in Edinburgh.
But centre Gareth Maule is available to ease Simon Easterby’s concerns behind the scrum.
Shingler will sit out the trip north to rest a foot problem, while Owen is nursing a knee injury he picked up in the 23-16 defeat to the Dragons at Rodney Parade last weekend.
It was a bruising defeat for the Scarlets in Newport with flanker Aaron Shingler also sidelined for Friday’s Murrayfield encounter after suffering a neck strain.
Asked about being forced to reshuffle his back three once more, Easterby said: “It is not ideal, but you have got to work with what you have got and I think the players we have got are doing particularly well managing that alteration to their game.
“We have had to mix and match in our first three games and in pre-season and are still trying to find our best combination, to be honest.
“It is different playing wing instead of centre or full-back, but we have to make sure we have enough adaptability in the squad to cover when we have injuries.
“At the moment we are being tested there, but hopefully it won’t cost us too much.”
