Have Your Say: Not enough small properties
ANY spokesman for the DWP in trying to defend the bedroom tax has to come out with statements like "taxpayers can no longer afford to pay for people living in properties larger than they need". But there are nowhere near enough smaller properties for tenants to move to.
Also quoted is "it is right that people contribute to these costs just as private renters do" but that isn't even happening as in many cases where properties are in other areas, those authorities are often paying out more in benefits not less.
So even if for one moment I agreed with the idea (which I don't!) it's simply not working. So it's all the more appalling that this is forcing those to move who are disabled but apparently not quite enough to warrant their own room.
Does anyone in their right mind think a person chooses to have a disability?
But as for the "necessary reform to return fairness to housing benefit"? That's just a very clever way of creating a divide between low-income families in work, and anyone on benefits.
It means that this uncaring Government can carry on deflecting the blame for their dreadful policies of low wages and benefit cuts, whilst most of them carry on enjoying the good life.
