Have Your Say: More help for ex-forces staff
VOLUNTARY organisations do sterling work to help members of our security forces who are returning to civie street. We cannot ignore the skills that these people have gained over the years in service and surely, if necessary, homes and work (perhaps in security, tourism and maintenance) could be found in all the National Trust properties in Britain? In Swansea, our listed building, the chalet in Singleton Park now being refurbished after vandalism, is a superb example of where a family could be housed and the skills gained in the military, utilised to prevent any future problems.
Our fallen heroes are commemorated on the memorial near St Helen's in Swansea, but what happens to the individual church and chapel memorials when these buildings are closed down? The plaques should be removed and cemented into the walls of the local square/libraries etc. because these were local boys and girls and they should, where possible, also be remembered in their localities and villages.
